At least 12 Nigerian states have enacted the Tax Harmonisation Law as part of the Federal Government's fiscal reforms, Minister of State for Finance Designate Taiwo Oyedele announced. The law aims to eliminate nuisance taxes, simplify taxation, protect taxpayers' rights, and end unfair tax treatment. Oyedele noted 13 additional states have presented the bill to their assemblies, with others at various implementation stages. The reforms, part of President Tinubu's agenda, seek to modernise Nigeria's fiscal framework and stimulate business growth. This follows Anambra, Zamfara, Ekiti, Jigawa, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Kwara states initiating similar reforms. The coordinated efforts signal alignment between sub-national governments and federal tax reform programmes. The Nigeria Revenue Service projects N40.7 trillion in tax revenue for 2026, up from N28.23 trillion in 2025, reflecting gains from restructured tax systems.
