2Baba says Nigeria is better off than years ago but cautions citizens often avoid personal responsibility. In a recent Wazobia FM interview, the music icon pointed out that people blame leaders for everything—like littering causing drainage issues—while ignoring their own role. He decried low civic awareness: many don’t know their representatives or councillors, relying on “beer parlour gist”. Ethnic and religious divisions fuel a culture of complainers who don’t add value. He acknowledged governing Nigeria is extremely difficult, expressing pity for past and present leaders. Despite this, 2Baba clarified he’s not entering partisan politics but continues non-partisan advocacy like his Vote Not Fight campaign and new “music against violence” movement. He stressed Afrobeats must be validated by Africans first, not Western awards.

His comments come amid Nigeria’s ongoing challenges: under President Tinubu’s economic reforms (fuel subsidy removal, forex adjustments), living costs rise, while security issues persist—like the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau State, killing 27–30 people. Historically, Nigeria evolved from colonial amalgamation through military rule to democratic consolidation since 1999, with the 2015 election marking the first opposition transfer.

The gist: Progress is real but requires collective ownership. Blaming leaders alone won’t fix drainage, security, or governance. True change starts with knowing your local reps and taking personal responsibility.

Intelligence: Do you know who represents your ward in the House of Representatives? What specific action will you take this month—like attending a community meeting or reporting a blocked drain—to contribute to solutions?
