2Baba’s mother sets record straight: ‘He knows the truth, he’s a legend’
Rose Idibia, mother of music star Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, defended her son against false claims circulating online and in newspapers, saying he knows the truth and can weather the attacks. Speaking in a Vanguard newspaper interview published on Sunday, she said, “What kept him going is that some of the things that have been published about him in the dailies and online are not true. If people are attacking you from every quarter, but you know yourself, it might hurt you, but because you know the truth, you can weather it.” She addressed controversies since his January 2025 separation from Annie Macaulay and February 2025 unveiling of Natasha Osawaru, an Edo State lawmaker, as his partner, including alleged altercations during an Instagram Live with Daddy Freeze and at the opening of the “90s Lounge” in Abuja, as well as reports of a UK arrest. Mrs Idibia traced 2Baba’s career from composing jingles at Enugu State Broadcasting Services in 1996, forming Plantashun Boiz with Blackface and Faze, releasing Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003) under Dove Records, and pursuing a solo career after the group split in 2004. She affirmed that despite not being “super rich,” he has fulfilled his ambition to make a mark in music, remains beloved by fans, and is a legend in Nigeria. She urged the public to focus on verified facts rather than rumors, noting that his truth and divine blessing shield him from baseless criticism.
