Accord Party urged to name Gbenga Olawepo‑Hashim as 2027 presidential candidate
Public affairs analyst and Accord Party chieftain Light Adoko urged the party’s national working committee to immediately forward the name of Gbenga Olawepo‑Hashim to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its official presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. Adoko’s call came after a statement from party chairman Maxwell Mgbuden rejected Olawepo‑Hashim’s emergence as the party’s nominee, a claim the aspirant dismissed. Accusing the All Progressives Congress of trying to weaponise the party’s internal machinery to block a candidate, Adoko warned that the move undermines internal party democracy and betrays the ‘New Nigeria divine covenant’ he says guides the party. He stressed that a political party is a public trust, not the property of a privileged few, and urged Accord to act swiftly to avoid entering the 2027 election without a presidential candidate. The controversy leaves Accord without a clear standard‑bearer as parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.
