ADC Accuses INEC of Blocking 2027 Election Participation
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) alleges that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is plotting to prevent the party from fielding candidates in the 2027 elections. In a statement on April 6, 2026, National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi claimed INEC is refusing to accept any correspondence from ADC until a Federal High Court case on the party's leadership is resolved. He argues this could force ADC to miss the May 10 deadline for submitting candidate documents, violating the Electoral Act's 21-day notice requirement.
Abdullahi provided evidence: certified INEC records confirm officials monitored ADC's July 29, 2025 NEC meeting, where Senator David Mark and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola were elected as leaders. INEC had updated its records to reflect this but now contradicts itself by blocking communications, despite previously asserting that internal party matters are non-justiciable.
ADC warns this creates "artificial non-compliance" to justify exclusion and demands INEC reverse its decision to ensure electoral fairness. With the May 10 cutoff approaching, will ADC meet deadlines, or could INEC's actions silence a major opposition voice? What does this mean for electoral integrity and voter choice in Nigeria?
