The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of behaving like a 'criminal organization' and taking sides in the party's internal leadership crisis. ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated on Arise Television that INEC is recognizing actions by former official Nafiu Bala Gombe despite knowing he resigned on July 17 and that his executive committee was dissolved. INEC recently removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and Secretary from its portal and suspended recognition of all ADC factions pending a Federal High Court suit. Abdullahi argued that the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) decisions are binding and that INEC's actions violate a Court of Appeal directive maintaining the status quo, calling the commission's conduct contemptuous. The ADC maintains Bala lost legal standing after his resignation, which INEC was notified about by August 12. This public clash highlights heightened tensions between the electoral body and a political party ahead of the 2027 elections, raising concerns about INEC's neutrality in intra-party disputes. The matter remains sub judice, with courts yet to determine the legitimate ADC leadership.
