ADC blames incumbency, cash politics, and weak structure for Anambra, FCT losses
ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola said the party lost the November 25, 2025 Anambra State governorship election and the February 26, 2026 Federal Capital Territory area council elections because opponents used incumbency, monetized the electoral process and misused state power, while ADC suffered from poor funding and an unprepared party structure. Speaking at the ADC national convention on Tuesday, Aregbesola added that the party has learned from these shortcomings and is now preparing for the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun State governorship elections. He noted that in the FCT area council polls, the APC won five of the six seats, leaving the PDP with one seat—a detail previously reported by DAILY POST. The admission highlights the structural and financial challenges facing smaller parties in Nigeria’s elections, where ruling parties often leverage state resources and cash influence to secure victories. For voters, this underscores the importance of examining party readiness and funding when assessing electoral options, especially as off-season governorship contests approach in Ekiti and Osun.
