The African Democratic Congress (ADC) marked President Bola Tinubu's 74th birthday on March 29, 2026, with a sharp rebuke, declaring the 'Renewed Hope' agenda has become 'hopelessness' for millions. National Publicity Secretary Malam Bolaji Abdullahi claimed fuel prices have surged nearly 500% under Tinubu's leadership, turning transportation into 'a daily calculation of survival.'

The opposition party cited Nigeria's ranking as 4th on the Global Terrorism Index, stating that 'every hour, a Nigerian is killed by insurgents.' ADC criticized what it called the government's poor security response, noting language that refers to perpetrators as 'sons and brothers' while victims mourn. Economically, the party said cost-of-living pressures have deepened and political space is narrowing toward a one-party state.

This ADC statement arrives as opposition parties consolidate ahead of 2027 elections. The party, recently strengthened by former APC governor Rabiu Kwankwaso's defection, positions itself as the main alternative. While wishing Tinubu good health, ADC urged him to 'take governance more seriously' in his final year.

With inflation at 34% and fuel at ₦617/liter, ADC's message taps into widespread frustration. Will this 'hopelessness' narrative gain electoral traction, or will APC's machinery and incumbency advantages neutralize the opposition's message?
