ADC claims only party not controlled by individual amid competitive primaries
ADC's National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi declared Monday that ADC is the only political party not controlled by an individual, speaking during an Arise Television interview. The party held presidential primaries across Nigeria on Monday (May 25, 2026) with three top-class candidates competing in what Abdullahi called 'one of the most competitive internal elections' he's ever experienced. 'Even as I speak to you, I cannot tell you who won in my home state, Kwara, and in many other states that I have been closely watching,' Abdullahi noted, highlighting the competitiveness of the process. The party appears positioning itself as an alternative to what it perceives as individual-controlled parties as Nigeria heads toward 2027 elections. With three qualified candidates who 'can do better than President Tinubu,' according to Abdullahi, the decision on who may withdraw for whom presents a strategic challenge for the party. As voters consider alternatives for 2027, will ADC's claim of being individually-independent influence their party choice, or will the competitive internal primaries create disunity before the general elections?
