ADC Emerges as Main Minority Party in Nigerian Senate
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has become the leading opposition party in Nigeria's Senate after nine senators defected from other parties to join the ADC, reducing the PDP's majority. DAILY POST reports this shift occurred as the PDP's Senate representation fell from 36 to 6, while APC now holds 87 seats. The defectors cited leadership disputes and a desire to strengthen democracy. INEC will hold elections to fill three vacant Senate seats caused by senators' deaths. Meanwhile, 12 House members also switched parties, with ADC gaining seven seats. Political analyst Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse dismissed ADC as non-existent, arguing PDP remains the only legitimate opposition despite internal challenges. The PDP faces potential decline if it fails to resolve internal conflicts and secure Supreme Court validation of its 2025 national convention.
