ADC Holds Convention Despite INEC Obstacles, Expels Members
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, successfully concluded its national convention in Abuja on Tuesday, April 15, 2026, despite opposition from INEC. Delegates voted to amend the party's constitution and dissolved the Ralph Nwosu-led National Working Committee, replacing it with David Mark-led NWC that now controls party operations.
The convention proceeded despite INEC's decision not to monitor the event due to a court ruling (Suit No. CA/ABJ/145/2026) that had de-recognized David Mark's leadership. The ADC announced the expulsion of several members including factional chairman Nafiu Bala and House of Representatives member Leke Abejide, citing anti-party activities.
Key figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakal accused INEC of "undermining democracy," while analyst Nduja Odo noted this represents ADC's emergence as a viable opposition force. The party overcame venue complications and attempted venue cancellations to proceed with the convention.
Will this renewed stance position ADC as a significant opposition force in Nigeria's 2027 elections, or will continued INEC resistance limit their political effectiveness?
