ADC rejectsINEC's 2027 election timetable, alleges exclusion of opposition
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) new election timetable for the 2027 general elections, claiming it is designed to exclude opposition parties. The party alleges the revised schedule and Electoral Act 2026 contain deliberately constructed barriers to limit democratic participation. Key requirements include submitting a detailed digital membership register by April 2, 2026, with members' names, sex, date of birth, address, state, local government, ward, polling unit, National Identification Number (NIN), and photographs. Failure to comply results in disqualification. The ADC argues this gives the ruling party a one-year head start in preparation, calling it a rigged system favoring President Bola Tinubu's return. The party joins other opposition groups in rejecting the timetable and Electoral Act, urging civil society to demand fairness.
