ADC Warns Tinubu: N1,470/Litre Fuel Price Pushes Nigerians to Breaking Point
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned President Bola Tinubu against further fuel increases after petrol rose to N1,470 per litre, saying the hike pushes Nigerians close to their limits. In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC noted that every fuel price increase raises the cost of living because businesses and households rely on fuel for transport, electricity and daily activities, and accused the government of turning the petrol pump into an instrument of punishment.
The party highlighted that the fuel surge has driven up transport, food, electricity, education and other basic costs, while private school fees have jumped 30‑40 % despite stagnant incomes. Families now face impossible choices between feeding children, paying school fees and meeting other necessities, and many businesses struggle to stay open as operating costs rise. The ADC argued that economic reforms should improve citizens’ lives, not make them poorer, and warned officials not to mistake Nigerians’ patience for acceptance of the current situation.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, the ADC restated its presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s pledge to lower petrol prices by restoring subsidies to support domestic fuel production, which would reduce food, transport and production costs.
