ADP Chairman Yabagi Calls Electoral Act 2026 'Anti-People'
ADP National Chairman Sani Yabagi has condemned Nigeria's newly signed Electoral Act 2026 as 'anti-people' and a threat to democracy. Speaking on African Independent Television's Focus Nigeria, Yabagi argued the amendment reintroduces discretionary powers allowing INEC to interfere in elections. He stated 'there was nothing fundamentally wrong with what we had before' but criticized the law's manual result collation provisions as undermining electoral integrity. Yabagi emphasized the BVAS voter accreditation system's importance but warned that without mandatory electronic result transmission, BVAS becomes ineffective. He alleged APC exploits network failures to manipulate elections and claimed rigging occurs during result collation. 'We call it democracy but it's like a monarchical system,' Yabagi warned, stating the Act places Nigeria's democracy in 'precarious situation.' ADP maintains APC is working against Nigerian sovereignty.
