Afriland appoints Agatha Obiekwugo Chairman, replaces Emmanuel Nnorom

Afriland Properties Plc has appointed Agatha Obiekwugo as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective Monday, August 31, 2026, replacing Emmanuel Nnorom who retires after more than a decade in the role. Obiekwugo has been a Non-Executive Director on the board since October 2018 and served on the Finance, Risk and General-Purpose Committee as well as the Nomination, Audit and Governance Committee.

She brings over 30 years of experience across banking, commerce, information technology, consulting and oil and gas. Obiekwugo is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Adassa Energy Limited, which operates in upstream and downstream oil and gas. She also sits on the boards of Heirs Insurance Brokers and Houce Limited, is a founding member of the Women in Energy Network and a member of the Institute of Directors Nigeria. Her academic background includes a BA in English from Edo State University, an MBA in Marketing from ESUT Business School and completion of the Strategy Execution Programme at Harvard Business School.

Azubike Emodi, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Afriland Properties, thanked Nnorom for his service and welcomed Obiekwugo, noting her deep understanding of the company and entrepreneurial perspective. The appointment comes as Nigeria’s property sector faces high construction costs, elevated financing expenses and shifting demand patterns.
