AGF: 386 terrorists convicted in Abuja mass trial
AGF Lateef Fagbemi announced 386 convictions in Federal High Court's four-day mass terrorist trial, with 76% conviction rate. Of the 508 defendants prosecuted, 8 were discharged, 2 acquitted, and 112 cases adjourned to next session.
The trials were conducted under public view with UNODC, civil society, and media present, demonstrating adherence to due process. Judges Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, and Akpan Ekerete oversaw the special proceedings.
Convicted persons will undergo rehabilitation as part of post-sentencing measures aimed at reintegration. "There is no space for terrorism in Nigeria," Fagbemi stated, emphasizing the process sends clear signal against terrorism financing.
Does this judicial success against terrorism make you feel more secure about Nigeria's counter-terrorism approach, or would you prefer to see more focus on preventing radicalization before it reaches the courtroom stage?
