International Women's Day (IWD) has renewed calls to address inequalities affecting women and girls, with AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria urging leaders to translate commitments into action. The organization will commemorate IWD on March 9 across seven states including FCT, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Kogi and Nasarawa. AHF Nigeria highlighted that despite progress, women and girls remain disproportionately affected by HIV (60% of new infections in sub-Saharan Africa) and face barriers including gender-based violence, limited healthcare access, and lack of menstrual products. The group will organize Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions for health workers in 156 facilities to address HIV's gendered dimensions and improve support for rural women. Country Director Echey Ijezie emphasized that empowering women benefits entire communities and urged leaders to match commitments with action. AHF Nigeria continues advocating for policies protecting women's rights and access to healthcare.
