Airtel Africa bought back 798,919 ordinary shares on September 18, 2026 at a volume‑weighted average price of 322.59 pence per share, pulling the total repurchased under its May 2026 programme to 19,907,874 shares at a cumulative VWAP of 336.05 pence. The shares were acquired on several European venues—London Stock Exchange, BATS Europe, CHI‑X Europe, Aquis Exchange and Turquoise—and will be cancelled, which will reduce the company’s issued share capital once the process completes.

This buyback follows a strong fiscal year: Airtel Africa reported profit before tax of $1.41 billion for the year ended March 31 2026, up 114.67% year‑on‑year, while revenue climbed to $6.4 billion from $4.9 billion. For Nigerians, Airtel Nigeria’s parent returning cash to shareholders signals robust financial health, which can underpin continued network investment and service reliability, and may influence the price of Airtel‑linked securities held by local investors.

The programme targets up to 1% of issued share capital, roughly a $110 million buyback, with Barclays Capital Securities Limited executing purchases on the market. No immediate action is required from the public unless you hold Airtel shares; watch for further buyback updates or dividend announcements. With profits rising, would you expect more shareholder returns or greater investment in Nigeria’s telecom infrastructure?
