Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu called on Nigerian opposition parties to unite behind Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking via her verified X handle on Wednesday, Yesufu argued that unity under Obi is strategic, not surrender, emphasizing that parties need not dissolve their platforms or principles. She noted President Bola Tinubu won the 2023 election with only 36% of votes, meaning the combined opposition vote was larger, and stressed that 'the math has never been a problem but has favoured the opposition.' Yesufu provided a coordination channel for party operatives, organizers, fundraisers, and strategists to connect without replacing their existing structures. She lamented current opposition fragmentation, stating 2027 will be won by the side that best assembles itself, not by the loudest supporters. The call comes amid ongoing opposition infighting, including recent ADC internal disputes and APC denials of major defections.
