During a Saturday interview with Arise News, Biodun Ajiboye—Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation and a presidential appointee—was asked to specify which socio-economic indicators have improved under President Tinubu, such as life expectancy, maternal mortality, poverty levels, or health outcomes. Instead of providing data, Ajiboye told the journalist she was 'oblivious' to what's happening in Nigeria because she's 'always in the studio.'

Ajiboye blamed economic difficulties on the previous Buhari administration, citing ballooning borrowings, subsidy removal challenges, and the alleged printing of N30 trillion. He insisted Tinubu's bold reforms were necessary but offered no positive metrics to show those reforms are working.

This deflection underscores a lack of accountability: when pressed for measurable outcomes, a senior appointee attacks the questioner rather than presenting evidence. Without concrete data on key socio-economic metrics, Nigerians cannot assess whether policies are genuinely improving lives. Transparency and evidence-based reporting are essential for public trust.

Should government officials be required to provide specific data when discussing achievements? How can citizens demand better accountability for economic outcomes?
