Senate President Godswill Akpabio appealed to Northern youths to support President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid during a meeting with the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly in Abuja on Saturday. He defended Tinubu's economic reforms—including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange measures—as painful but necessary steps now yielding benefits like improved revenue collection and investor confidence.

Akpabio framed the reforms as 'surgical procedures' redirecting resources to healthcare, education, and infrastructure, arguing abandoning them before consolidation would undermine gains. He told youths they are 'architects of today,' not just future leaders, and urged active governance participation rather than waiting for tomorrow.

The Assembly's spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, praised Akpabio for bridging North-South divides and pledged grassroots education on federal fiscal policies ahead of 2027, emphasizing national unity over regional interests. The coalition identified three engagement priorities: consulting Northern youth structures, explaining economic policies rurally, and maintaining national cohesion.

As political activities intensify for the 2027 elections, will Northern youths view Tinubu's reform agenda as delivering promised benefits worth continuing, or do they seek alternative economic approaches for the region?
