APC chieftain urges Tinubu to keep Wike alliance ahead of 2027 polls
APC foundation member Osita Okechukwu urged President Bola Tinubu to preserve the strategic alliance with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the partnership was key to Tinubu’s 2023 victory. Speaking on Sunday, Okechukwu warned that some APC state governors trying to distance Tinubu from Wike should first examine their own conduct during party primaries, where manipulation may have occurred.
He argued that Wike could deliver more votes for Tinubu in 2027 than those governors, noting that the political realignment around Wike has already weakened former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s nationwide influence. Okechukwu also pointed out the three‑week gap between the presidential election on January 16, 2027 and the gubernatorial vote on February 6, 2027, which lets voters assess federal and state performance against increased state allocations.
The 2027 elections could therefore act as a referendum on whether leaders have turned extra public resources into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives. With the alliance’s fate uncertain, voters should watch how Tinubu and Wike cooperate and consider whether candidates deliver real dividends from the extra funds now flowing to states.
