APC convention succeeds through planning, security upgrades – Abiodun
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who chaired the venue subcommittee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 national convention, described the event as a model of organization and security, crediting thorough planning and strategic innovations. The convention, held at Eagle Square, attracted approximately 11,000 attendees, including 8,400 delegates, 1,800 committee members, and 200 VIPs.
Abiodun explained that the subcommittee reviewed past conventions to tackle recurring challenges in crowd management and security. After an on-site assessment, they redesigned the venue layout and ran simulations for 12,000 participants to ensure smooth entry and exit. Specific entry points were assigned to attendee categories, emergency routes were created, and surveillance cameras were installed at strategic locations.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele called the event unprecedented, highlighting delegates from all 36 states. Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu praised the leadership and coordination. Abiodun linked the success to the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda and thanked President Bola Tinubu for the trust.
The convention's flawless execution demonstrates the APC's capacity to manage large-scale events, potentially boosting confidence in its 2027 election preparedness. The security protocols established may set a new benchmark for future political gatherings in Nigeria.
