APC names Anyim chairman of presidential primary election committee
All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a seven-member Presidential Primary Election Committee ahead of its presidential primary scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, May 23, 2026). Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim was named chairman of the committee, with other members including former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Senator Victor Udo Udoma, Otunba Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, former Taraba State Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame, and former Kogi State Governor Idris Wada. Sanusi Musa will serve as secretary.
The party also announced the Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee headed by former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, with Patricia Olubunmi Etteh as member and Samuel Piwuna as secretary. In preparation, APC has deployed 37 coordinators and collation officers across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with governors appointed as coordinators in their respective states.
The presidential primary election will be conducted simultaneously across the country's 8,809 wards as delegates select the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Political analysts view this as a move expected to reaffirm support for the incumbent administration.
As the primary happens tomorrow, which governor or political figure do you expect to emerge as the APC presidential candidate, and how might this selection impact Nigeria's political landscape for 2027?
