Felix Hyat, Director-General of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, warned Nigerians—especially young people in the North—against voting for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, calling him a "wrong product from the South-west" that should be replaced with Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate Seyi Makinde, also from the region. Hyat spoke at the Abuja inauguration of the campaign organisation on Tuesday.

He criticised northern youths for repeatedly supporting older presidential aspirants while younger candidates remain sidelined, questioning whether backing politicians seeking multiple terms serves their interests. Hyat argued that since Tinubu is serving his first four-year term, the North has a moral responsibility to support completion of an eight-year southern tenure by allowing a southerner to succeed him.

Hyat also challenged the South-east, which seeks four years in the presidency, to consider younger politicians from their region. He maintained that replacing Tinubu with another South-west candidate like Makinde—not rejecting the region—is the solution to APC's alleged failures despite producing a southwestern president.

Campaign vice presidential candidate Lawal Daura announced the Makinde-Daura team targets 68.7 million votes—at least two-thirds of Nigeria's 103 million registered voters—for the 2027 election, describing this as a "herculean task" achievable through voter canvassing rather than electoral malpractice. The campaign leadership was also inaugurated, with Hyat as director-general, Inna Ciroma as deputy director-general (Administration), and Anthony Aziegbemi as deputy director-general (Operations).

Will northern youth heed this call to redirect their political support toward younger candidates like Makinde, or will historical voting patterns persist despite appeals for generational change in leadership?
