APM demands Tinubu govt publish full account of fuel subsidy savings
APM has asked President Bola Tinubu's government to immediately publish a full, independently verifiable account of the trillions of naira realised from the removal of fuel subsidy since May 2023. The party wants the exact amount saved, the projects funded, and their locations made public.
APM says Nigerians have suffered worsening hardship since the subsidy was lifted, with fuel prices jumping from below ₦200 to over ₦1,500 per litre. It claims the removal has generated over ₦20 trillion, yet poverty, unemployment and collapsed public facilities persist. The party also cited a $2.3 trillion infrastructure deficit, saying experts estimate $100 billion yearly for the next three decades would be needed to close the gap.
The opposition argues that without transparent reporting, citizens cannot tell whether the subsidy savings are improving lives or being lost to corruption and diversion. APM urged the Tinubu administration to rise above political rhetoric and release a detailed public report showing total savings, expenditure breakdown, beneficiaries and measurable outcomes.
