Ardo claims APC idea was his, not Amaechi's
Former APC chieftain Umar Ardo told Arise TV this week that he, not Rotimi Amaechi, originated the idea to form APC for Buhari's 2015 presidential bid. Ardo dismissed Amaechi's claim of single-handedly making Buhari president, stating that while every idea starts with one person, it takes many people and groups to actually win an election.
According to Ardo, he personally convinced Buhari to contest again after the 2011 loss, telling him he needed support from one southern zone to win. He revealed that in 2011, Tinubu wanted to be VP but they picked Pastor Tunde Bakare instead, which led Tinubu to consult with Jonathan and support him. Ardo also said he convinced Buhari to go to tribunal after the 2011 loss to keep his political flag flying.
This revelation highlights how political coalitions are built through multiple strategic moves and relationships, not individual heroism. Does this change how you view the formation of Nigeria's current ruling party?
