Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has called on his team to channel Diego Maradona's spirit ahead of Wednesday's World Cup semi-final against England in Atlanta, renewing a rivalry that peaked in the 1986 Mexico World Cup quarter-final. Mac Allister, whose father Carlos played alongside Maradona, admitted watching videos of the legendary 1986 performance for inspiration. The 1986 match saw Maradona score both goals—the controversial 'Hand of God' opener and a stunning solo goal considered one of the greatest in World Cup history—as Argentina went on to lift the trophy. Argentina seeks a second straight final appearance after their 2022 triumph with Messi, while England has Declan Rice declared fit to start. This will be the first Argentina-England World Cup meeting since 2002. Mac Allister noted England haven't played with Premier League intensity in this tournament but expects a high-intensity clash with both teams nervous. Argentina aims to reach a third final in four tournaments.
