Army dismisses mutiny rumours, says Tinubu improving troop welfare
The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports alleging soldiers are threatening mutiny over salaries and allowances, calling the claims false, misleading and designed to undermine national security. In a statement on Monday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said there has been no threat of mutiny within the Army, which remains loyal to the Constitution and Commander-in-Chief.
Grievances within the military are addressed through established internal procedures, not public platforms, Anele explained. She clarified that soldiers' earnings include consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational, field and hardship allowances, plus other entitlements based on deployment, qualifications and responsibilities—not just promotion increments.
The Army stated it is implementing structured welfare reforms with the Armed Forces and government agencies. These include periodic salary reviews, enhanced operational allowances, improved accommodation, medical services and insurance packages for personnel and their families. The Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu remains committed to Armed Forces welfare and operational effectiveness, particularly in addressing Nigeria's security challenges.
While the Army did not disclose specific figures or timelines for these reforms, the emphasis on structured improvements suggests ongoing rather than immediate changes. For soldiers and families, this means continued attention to welfare issues through official channels rather than media escalation.
