Favour Ashe won his heat in 10.10 seconds to qualify for the men’s 100m semi‑finals, beating Kenya’s Meshack Babu (10.21s) and Guyana’s Akeem Stewart (10.55s). Nicholas Fakorede finished second in his heat with 10.21 seconds, behind Lesotho’s Mojela Koneshe who set a new national record of 10.07 seconds. Singapore’s Marc Brian Louis took third in 10.38 seconds. Kanyinsola Ajayi advanced via a bye. All three Nigerians will compete in the semi‑finals on Tuesday, July 29, 2026: Ashe in heat one, Ajayi in heat two, and Fakorede in heat three.

This marks the first time three Nigerian sprinters have reached the men’s 100m semi‑finals at a Commonwealth Games, signalling a resurgence in Nigeria’s sprint programme and raising hopes for a medal. It also highlights the growing competitiveness of African athletes on the global stage and could inspire increased investment in grassroots athletics.

With the semis set for Tuesday, will you tune in to see if any of the trio can break the 10‑second barrier and secure a medal for Nigeria?
