Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has given President Bola Tinubu seven days to order a thorough, independent investigation into the alleged fraud surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Atiku’s aide Phrank Shaibu said the Presidency’s explanation through Bayo Onanuga raises more questions and that failure to act will deepen suspicions of official complicity. He warned that the scandal—centered on Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly created a fictitious office, secured government space, held meetings with foreign delegations, visited the EFCC, processed salaries and operated institutional accounts—exposes weaknesses in budgetary, administrative, security and institutional controls. Atiku stressed that while Adeyemi must face the law if guilty, the real issue is how such an elaborate scheme could pass through multiple government checks undetected. The ultimatum follows growing public concern that powerful interests may have protected the alleged racket, which reportedly duped Nigerians seeking public‑sector jobs. Tinubu’s administration now has a week to either launch a credible probe or risk being seen as complicit in the controversy. Will Tinubu launch an independent probe within the week, or will Nigerians interpret silence as complicity?
