Atiku urges decisive leadership to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity
Atiku Abubakar told Arise TV Prime Time on Wednesday that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity can only be solved with strong and decisive leadership, calling security a fundamental and highly sensitive issue. He spoke during an interview on April 14, 2026, stressing that the matter should not be taken lightly.
The former vice president recalled that Boko Haram emerged in 2002 while he was in office, and that he and the president acted decisively to put it down, claiming the group was eradicated by the time they left office. He warned, however, that the current insecurity in Northern Nigeria exceeds the region’s capacity and requires national leadership.
With insecurity still affecting lives and livelihoods across the country, especially in the Northeast, Atiku’s remarks highlight the need for voters to evaluate candidates’ security platforms ahead of the 2027 elections. Will you support leaders who propose clear, coordinated actions over mere rhetoric when casting your vote?
