AU, OIC, LAS condemn Al-Aqsa closure amid Ramadan, regional war
The African Union Commission, alongside the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States (LAS), condemned Israel's closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday. The joint statement declared the closure a violation of Palestinians' rights during Ramadan, calling it provocative and an assault on Islamic heritage. Israel cited security concerns after joint US-Israeli attacks on Tehran last month triggered a regional war affecting the global economy. The signatories demanded the UN Security Council enforce resolutions 252, 267, and 476 to reopen the mosque and lift restrictions on Palestinian access to Jerusalem. They warned Israel risked escalating tensions across the Muslim world.
