The African Union (AU) has expressed deep concern over escalating US-Iran military tensions, warning they could disrupt African energy markets and food security. AU Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf described recent US strikes with Israeli forces inside Iran as "a serious intensification of hostilities in the Middle East." He called for immediate de-escalation and urged all parties to prioritize diplomacy over force, emphasizing that sustainable peace requires international law compliance and UN Charter adherence. Youssouf warned that further escalation could heighten global instability, particularly affecting Africa where many nations already face conflict and economic challenges. The AU highlighted potential disruptions to energy imports and food supplies, urging international mediation efforts led by Oman to ease tensions.
