Bayelsa United promises staff payments soon amid backroom staff restructuring

Bayelsa United Chairman Dr Tarila Singabele said limited resources forced the club to prioritize players with valid contracts ahead of the new season, according to a statement released September 5, 2026. He added that the club has embarked on a full restructuring of its backroom staff to meet the technical and administrative demands of securing promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season.

The statement, signed by media adviser Ebi Avi, quotes Singabele: “When this new management came on board, we had limited resources at our disposal. In line with best practice, we prioritised players with valid contracts to ensure team stability.” He continued, “At the same time, we commenced a full restructuring of the backroom staff to align with the technical and administrative demands of returning to the NPFL. That process affected the immediate payment timeline.” He urged staff to remain calm, saying payments will be fully resolved and discharged soon.

The assurance addresses concerns over unpaid wages amid the club’s push for NPFL promotion, a move that could boost revenue and prestige but currently strains finances. Staff livelihoods and club stability hinge on timely payment clearance while the restructuring aims to improve on‑field and off‑field performance.
