Bayern Munich thrash Leipzig 5-1, Kane scores 21st league goal
Bayern Munich came from behind to thrash RB Leipzig 5-1 in the German Bundesliga on Saturday, with Harry Kane scoring his 21st goal of the season. The victory extends Bayern's lead at the top to 11 points over Borussia Dortmund. Bayern have now dropped just four points this season, equalling a record tally of 50 points after 18 games. Their 71 goals scored is also a record for this stage of a German league season.
Leipzig took a first-half lead through Brazilian forward Romulo after 20 minutes. However, Bayern dominated after the break, with Serge Gnabry equalising shortly after half-time from a Dayot Upamecano interception. Kane put Bayern ahead on 67 minutes, blasting home after Leipzig defender Ridle Baku lost his footing. Jonathan Tah, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Michael Olise added late goals, while Jamal Musiala made his return after a six-month injury absence.
In other Bundesliga results, Borussia Dortmund were saved by an Emre Can penalty in stoppage time to win 3-2 at home against St Pauli. Hoffenheim climbed past Leipzig into third place with a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, while Cologne beat Mainz 2-1. The results leave Bayern firmly in control of the title race, with Dortmund and Hoffenheim the only teams within 10 points. Is Bayern's record-breaking campaign a sign of German football's uncompetitive nature, or is their squad simply built to dominate European football for years to come?
