BREAKING: SSANU, NASU announce strike, lament slow renegotiation of 2009 agreement
Add us on Google The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike from 1 May. The directive was contained in a strike notice dated 30 April, jointly signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU President, Mohammad Ibrahim. The unions said the action followed the federal government’s slow pace in renegotiating the 2009 agreement with non-academic staff, despite concluding a similar process with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The renegotiation with ASUU was finalised with an agreement signed in December. The leadership of both unions announced the strike a day after they met with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, to discuss the renegotiation.
