BudgIt challenges Tinubu govt to release PFIPC budget data for transparency

BudgIt Foundation called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to move beyond statements and release concrete data on the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, July 24, 2026, BudgIt Country Director Vahyala Kwaga said Nigerians deserve to see the hard numbers from the Federal Budget and the Office of the Accountant‑General of the Federation, not just official defences during National Assembly inquiries. He explained that ministries, departments and agencies obtain budget codes through the Budget Preparation System (BPS), which operates inside the Government Integrated Financial Information Management System (GIFMIS). The Budget Office only oversees GIFMIS; it does not control the system, and oversight also falls to the Head of Service of the Federation and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Kwaga noted that the Head of Service had previously admitted there are loopholes in the process. Without access to the underlying figures, citizens cannot assess whether the PFIPC’s spending is lawful, effective or represents value for money, weakening public oversight of foreign‑intervention spending.
