Capitec set to trade on A2X from Sept 7, deepening its digital banking push
Capitec, South Africa’s largest digital bank, will begin trading its shares on A2X Markets starting Monday, September 7, 2026, while keeping its primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The secondary listing was approved to give investors an additional venue and improve liquidity.
Capitec has grown beyond traditional lending into a digital platform offering payments, connectivity, devices, insurance and financial services, serving over 26 million active clients and valued at R540 billion ($33.8 billion). Its mobile unit, Capitec Connect, has 1.5 million users and recently gave away 3 petabytes of free data worth R78 million. Other South African banks—Absa, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Investec—already trade on A2X, which offers fees roughly half those of the JSE and tools like Auction on Demand.
For Nigerian investors and fintech founders, Capitec’s move shows how African banks can use alternative exchanges to lower trading costs and how bundling telecom services with banking can scale a customer base. Will you consider looking at African banks with similar digital ecosystems for investment, or explore partnerships that combine financial and telecom offerings to grow your own venture?
