Celebration Season Fully Activated: UNILAG Rolls Out Elaborate Schedule for 56th Convocation Ceremonies
The University of Lagos Akoka campus is set to transform into a hub of celebration and academic pageantry as the 56th Convocation Ceremonies officially commence. The university has released a comprehensive and detailed programme of events scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 14, to Sunday, January 25, 2026, marking the formal end of the academic journey for thousands of graduands. The festivities began today with a Pre-Convocation Press Conference addressed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, who highlighted the university's achievements over the past year. This will be followed by a series of traditional rites, including a Special Juma’at Service on Friday and a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel, emphasizing the institution's commitment to grounding academic success in gratitude and community spirit.
The climax of the ceremonies—the awarding of degrees—will take place at the iconic J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium across three intensive days starting January 20. The schedule is meticulously segmented to manage the crowd: the Faculties of Education, Social Sciences, Arts, and Environmental Sciences will take the stage on the first day, followed by Engineering, Law, and Management Sciences on the second. The grand finale on January 22 is reserved for the "heavyweights" of academia—the Postgraduate Diploma recipients, Masters graduates, and the prestigious PhD Hooding Ceremony. This final day usually attracts the crème de la crème of society, including the University Visitor or their representative, celebrating the production of new scholars who have reached the pinnacle of academic research.
