Chelsea have agreed a deal with Crystal Palace to sign French defender Maxence Lacroix, with the player now given permission to finalize the transfer. The agreement came after talks in which Chelsea offered Palace the chance to discuss a potential swap involving one of their own defenders—Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah or Benoit Badiashile—who are currently available for transfer. Palace had been pursuing Augsburg centre‑back Chrislain Matsima but grew frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations and are now prepared to walk away from that deal.

The move would bolster Chelsea’s defensive options as they look to strengthen the backline for the upcoming Premier League season. Lacroix, a France international, brings experience from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, adding depth and competition for places. For Chelsea fans, the signing could mean more rotation and tactical flexibility at the back, while Palace supporters may see the club shift focus to other targets after the Matsima talks stalled.

Will Lacroix’s arrival shore up Chelsea’s defence enough to challenge for the title, or will Palace redirect their pursuit elsewhere to strengthen their own backline?
