Council of Legal Education released updated list of 117 universities with approved Law programs nationwide, warning prospective students against enrolling in unaccredited institutions. In a public notice signed by Secretary Aderonke Osho, the council emphasized that graduates from unaccredited law programmes will not be admitted to the Nigerian Law School. In Nigeria, all law graduates must attend the Nigerian Law School to be called to the Bar and qualify to practice law. The council regulates legal education and supervises the Nigerian Law School, established under the Legal Education (Consolidation) Act. Universities admitting students into unapproved programmes risk sanctions in accordance with extant regulations. The publication aims to guide prospective students, parents, and guardians seeking admission to law programmes nationwide. Students should verify their chosen institution is on the approved list before enrolling to avoid future career barriers. Will you check if your university appears on this updated accredited list before committing to a law programme?
