Metro Court jails woman five years for human trafficking in Borno Published on April 24, 2026 By Hafsat Bello A High Court of Justice sitting in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital has convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old woman, Salamatu Saidu, to five years’ imprisonment for offences relating to human trafficking. The judge, Justice Bukar M. Umar, found Saidu guilty of “fraudulent entry of persons,” an offence involving two victims aged 21 and 33 years. The offence contravenes Section 26(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. Details of the case were disclosed by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a statement shared on its verified Facebook page. According to the agency, Saidu was arraigned before the court on April 20, 2026, and convicted on the same day after the court established her role in facilitating the illegal movement of persons through deceptive means. NAPTIP explained that under the law, “fraudulent entry of persons” involves knowingly organising, facilitating, or assisting the unlawful movement of individuals into or out of Nigeria through deception, false representation, or other illegal means. Following her conviction, the court sentenced Saidu to five years in prison. Reacting to the judgment, NAPTIP reiterated its commitment to tackling human trafficking and called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
