Dangote Refinery IPO opens Sep 14, offers ₦5,250 minimum stake to Nigerians
Dangote Refinery’s retail IPO opens September 14 and closes October 13, offering 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 each. The minimum investment is ten shares (₦5,250), targeting ₦2.15 trillion (about $1.6 billion) from up to ten million retail subscribers.
This listing could add ₦65.22 trillion to the NGX’s market cap, making Dangote Refinery up to 35% of the exchange and reshaping concentration—currently the top eight stocks hold ~64% of NGX, which would fall to ~46% after the IPO. NNPC holds a 7.2% stake and may aim for 20%, while the IPO gives investors about 3.3% of enlarged capital, leaving control with the founder. However, the refinery imports 30‑40% of its crude despite being in Africa’s largest oil producer, posing feedstock risks that analysts say justify its rich $47‑49 billion valuation.
Shares are fully digital, purchasable with a BVN and no smartphone needed; proceeds will expand capacity from 700,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day and boost fertiliser output. Will you buy the minimum ₦5,250 stake for exposure to Nigeria’s biggest refinery, or wait for clearer disclosures on crude supply risks?
