Dangote Petroleum Refinery's IPO opens on September 14 and closes October 13, 2026, aiming to raise about ₦2.15 trillion. After the offer, Aliko Dangote will keep 84.34% beneficial ownership, while only 3.30% of the company will be available to public investors following a prior sale of 1.04 billion shares to PanAfrican Refinery Investment SPV for roughly $400 million. Analysts on the Drinks and Mics podcast said the offering is smaller than many expected—under 3% of the company—and has been well‑telegraphed, reducing the risk of a liquidity squeeze like the one seen during the private placement. They warned that short‑term volatility could still occur as investors reposition portfolios, and that sustaining the IPO price will depend on the refinery maintaining strong margins as new refining capacity arrives. Private‑placement investors currently face paper losses because the anticipated premium has not materialised and their shares are locked for one year, while funding costs of around 20% create an opportunity cost. Nevertheless, organizers say they are targeting up to 10 million new retail investors, which could deepen Nigeria’s capital market and attract foreign retail interest. Market watchers will monitor demand, valuation dynamics and the listing’s long‑term impact on the Nigerian Exchange.
