Dangote Refinery slashes JetA1 price to N1,820/liter, beating N3,000 rumor
Dangote Refinery has announced a lower price of N1,820 per liter for aviation fuel (JetA1), undercutting the earlier market speculation of N3,000 per liter. The refinery says the move aims to boost price transparency in the JetA1 market. This comes after airline operators lamented a roughly 300 percent surge in JetA1 costs following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which had threatened to disrupt flights or force fare increases. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority later clarified that the prevailing JetA1 price ranged between N1,960 and N2,800 per liter, not above the N3,000 figure being speculated. Earlier, the federal government had granted airline operators a 30 percent debt discount as an intervention to avert sector disruption. For airlines, the N1,820/liter price could reduce operating expenses and ease pressure on ticket fares. Passengers should watch for any impact on airfare stability, while industry observers note that Dangote’s price sits slightly below the regulator’s cited range, suggesting potential market adjustment. Stakeholders are advised to monitor actual uptake of the new price and any further regulatory or governmental responses.
