Dangote Tanzania meeting outlines US$2B investments covering power plant port road fertilizer projects
President Aliko Dangote met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan this weekend in Dar es Salaam to discuss major investments worth over US$2 billion. The talks covered port development a 40-kilometre concrete access road to support port operations a special trade zone a proposed 2000-megawatt coal-fired power plant a urea fertiliser plant and transport infrastructure linking Mtwara with Mbamba Bay in southern Tanzania. Dangote emphasized Tanzania's status as one of Africa's most attractive investment destinations citing identified strategic sectors capable of delivering significant economic value. He also clarified Dangote's decision to locate its planned East African refinery in Lamu Kenya while extending an invitation to Tanzania to participate in that investment. President Samia welcomed the continued confidence directed relevant ministries and agencies to begin detailed technical discussions aligned with Tanzania's legal and development priorities and appointed the Minister of Planning and Investment to coordinate the partnership. Formal negotiations are expected to begin soon with a Tanzanian delegation set to visit Nigeria to advance discussions.
