Disu Confirmed as Nigeria's New Police Chief

Olatunji Disu formally became Nigeria's substantive Inspector-General of Police on February 25, 2026, following a ceremony at the Louis Edet House in Abuja. The National Police Council confirmed his appointment after President Bola Tinubu appointed him acting IGP on February 25. His name will now proceed to the Senate for confirmation. Disu, 59, previously served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos and as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State. He promised a tenure built on professionalism, modernism, and accountability. His career includes commanding SARS units in multiple states and serving as head of the Intelligence Response Team. Disu enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has held roles in Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, and Rivers States.
