Donald Duke warns divided opposition could gift Tinubu 2027 election victory
Donald Duke, presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, warned on Channels Television’s Politics Today that a divided opposition could hand President Bola Tinubu victory in the 2027 election, though Tinubu would likely win as a minority president without securing a majority of votes. Speaking on Monday, Duke said Tinubu is beatable if opposition parties and politicians set aside their differences and unite behind a common candidate.
He stressed that the opposition must begin preparing now and learn from past experiences, warning that crying after the fact achieves nothing. Duke expressed willingness to step down for any consensus candidate agreed upon by the opposition, saying once a common objective exists, the question becomes who is best suited. He also criticized Tinubu’s governance, asserting that while Tinubu is a formidable politician, his weak governance over the last three years has left the country in a state of disaster, and another term would deepen poverty and push the nation further in the wrong direction.
Will opposition leaders unite behind a single candidate to challenge Tinubu, or risk repeating past divisions that could secure another term despite widespread dissatisfaction?
