Dr Sifiso Falala named interim CEO of Africa Credit Rating Agency
Dr Sifiso Falala has been appointed interim Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), launched by the African Union in Mauritius on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The agency aims to provide an African-led perspective on credit ratings, addressing concerns that international agencies misprice African risk and contribute to higher borrowing costs for countries like Ghana and Zambia.
AfCRA’s preliminary prospectus shows that Falala’s company, Plus 94 Research, holds 1,000 of the 3,000 proposed shares (33.33%), with the remaining 2,000 shares open to new investors as the agency targets $15 million in fresh capital. The agency’s website, afcra.mu, went live at the launch, offering access to its ratings data and insights.
For Nigerians and other Africans, AfCRA could influence how sovereign and corporate creditworthiness is assessed, potentially affecting access to global finance and the cost of capital. While the AU chair cautioned that the agency alone may not quickly lower borrowing costs, its creation signals a push for home‑grown financial infrastructure.
